Kentucky: Marco Allen Chapman executed

EDDYVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A small group of protesters stood vigil outside the Kentucky State Penitentiary, enduring frigid temperatures to show their opposition to capital punishment.

The Rev. Patrick Delahanty, head of the Kentucky Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, led a group who held candles and prayed for Kentucky's Death Row inmates and their families. They also prayed for Marco Allen Chapman, who died by lethal injection Friday night at the prison.

The 37-year-old Chapman pleaded guilty in 2004 to killing two young girls in their northern Kentucky home and wounding their mother and another sibling. Chapman had asked the state to execute him, and did not pursue appeals to stop his execution.

Kentucky's last execution was in 1999, when Eddie Lee Harper died by lethal injection.
